The casino plans to reopen this upcoming weekend, assuming the clean-up goes as planned. The 47-table poker room was forced to cancel the tournament after the first starting day thanks to the power outage. It previously hoped to delay the tournament. The casino said that the storm created “serious water damage” to the main and backup power generators. Local officials called the storm last week a “monsoon.” Around 600 hotel guests at the casino had to be evacuated early Saturday when power went out. The Arizona State Poker Championship kicked off Friday and was slated to run until the middle of this week. A prize pool of $553,000 had been generated when the event was suspended and then later canceled. The casino said it is refunding players.
